You couldn't get a more Aussie view from a restaurant than this (apart from maybe one at Uluru) and we were lucky enough to bag the front row window seat. It still seems surreal to me to sit there with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge metres away, as if i'm just on a film set.
The menu was slightly different to others I've come across in that there were two starter sections to choose from then your mains and desserts so for me personally being a bit more savoury than sweet it was really pleasant to have two starters and then decide at the end whether to add on a dessert.
A nice little mouthful to begin with as a gift from the kitchen was Venison Salami with Mustard and Gherkin
The first starter I opted for was Cured Kingfish with Lime Mascarpone & Tempura Seaweed.
A lovely meaty block of fish with a nice deep smoky cure on the outside so the lime mascarpone was a good refreshing condiment to have with it. It was also really nice to scoop some of the fish and mascarpone onto the seaweed shovel and eat it all together. Like an insanely posh version of nachos.
The next round I thought they'd accidentally brought out the main but I was assured this was still starter size. It was the deliciously tasty Pork Belly with Banana Prawn Ceviche.
(Just to assure my yellow fruit hating friends, the 'banana' refers to the type of prawn used, no mushy fruits were used in the making of this dish)
Pork can be usually seen accompanying scallops so I was intrigued to see how the prawns would hold up against it. I've got to say it was really really nice. The pork belly had been barbecued so the smoky flavour with the prawns and the citrusy dressing was perfect.
Having been warmed up by two starters I was ready for the main of Snapper with Globe Artichoke, Rainbow Chard and Truffle Butter.
The fish was beautifully soft and not having ever had truffle with fish before, the buttery sauce was divine and not too overpowering, the fish was definitely still the star. Veggies were cooked well but really all I was after at that point was the fish and the truffle.
I was then forced into ordering the specials dessert, just to try it, which was White Chocolate and Coconut Dome with Mango Sorbet. It was a good decision as I was kind of craving some sweet stuff and it was light enough to sneak in at the end without feeling overly stuffed.
The service was brilliant and the lychee martinis exceptional. Such a shame it's so far away from me otherwise I would definitely be a regular.
