1. Rose Champagne Shrimp Dumplings - Hutong at The Shard (the quite tall building in London) Level 33 The Shard, 31 St Thomas' Street, London SE1 9RY
As it was a special occasion, This Little Piggy treated family piglets in celebration of a 40th birthday at the high rise Chinese, Hutong. Eating really tasty food whilst looking at panoramic London was a pretty special experience, we urge everyone to have a go. The ethos of Hutong is 'food to share' so we kicked off with 5 different dim sum bundles: Wagyu Beef Puffs, Shao Lang Bao, Crystal Crab Meat, Lamb & Fennel Puffs and the top pick Rose Champagne Shrimp Dumplings. The fresh and sweet shrimp taste was heightened with the addition of the champagne in the sauce and was then enveloped in a thin translucent dim sum film. Beautiful!
Another shared starter choice was the pork belly which was uniquely served cold with palate cleansing cucumber and a divine treacle like sauce which definitely had chilli, garlic and ginger in although any other ingredients weren't allowed to be shared with us......just like McDonalds burger sauce, the secret can't be revealed!
P.s. i know it looks like a cake but it's piggy honestly!
A standard on any Chinese menu but as expected, this was the best Kung Po Prawn we'd ever had. Giant, juicy butterfly prawns which carried a zing but not too overpowering (considering they were presented underneath a chilli ball pool.
We ordered this as you don't often see this cut of meat featured in your local Peking Chef. The knowledgable waitress informed us this was a traditional northern Chinese dish and with the addition of a nice black pepper drizzle sauce, was melt in the mouth and delicious. When tried with the secret sauce that was left over from the dim sum, it was divine! We know it looks like a rolled up newspaper containing a shoe that's fallen apart but trust us, looks are deceiving!
We were very excited when a fine piggy was served as the mains at a wedding we attended so it had to be featured. Tastily stuffed with apricots, sage & onion and with fine crunchy crackling, it made our day!
